Today is Freelance Friday Tips Day. I found a great resource I want to recommend, which inspired this post.
One of the things I like about being a writer is that I can diversify my income streams. This pads dry spells during the slow summer months, where it can be harder — not hard, harder– to come across freelance writing jobs. Right now, I have four ways that I use my writing skill to make money online (and off), ie:
4 Ways I Make Money Online (and Off) as a Freelance Writer
(i) Writing for Clients: Most of this is SEO writing work, which keeps me busy — even throughout the summer. I’m going into my third summer as an SEO writer, and while I have seen a slowdown in my business, it’s because I practically never market for work anymore. I haven’t for months. Referrals from existing clients and my prominence in the serach engiens for phrases like “seo writing (I’m #1) keep me busy enough.
(ii) Freelance Writing Seminars: After getting tons of questions over the years about how to become a freelance writer, how to start a freelance writing career, how to find freelance writing jobs, yadda, yadda, yadda, I put together freelance writing seminars — which have turned out to be nice little money makers.
(iii) Affiliate Marketing: I use mostly article marketing (which requires writing and distributing articles). I also use free classified ad sites to promote a few products I believe in. As I’ve written about extensively, I routinely make $100 to $150/day doing this type of affiliate marketing (have since January of 2009).
(iv) Ebooks: To date, I’ve written 16 or 17 ebooks and pamphlets. Most are the “how to” variety and they are in niches I know very well. This not only make them easy to write, it makes them very useful for buyers because I know first-hand what I’m talking about.
One of the reasons ebooks have a bad rep is that many are crap. Either they’re not useful, or they’re just generic information you can find by doing simple web searches. If you write how-to reports, ebooks and pamphlets, don’t turn out this kind of junk. Your reputation will suffer and you won’t make nearly the sales you could.
Why Writing How to Reports and Ebooks Is My Favorite Way of Making Money Online
This is probably my favorite way to make money online as a freelance writer. I think it’s because I can get a lot of the info outta my head and onto paper. This info helps others to make real life changes.
Making a Difference
I can’t tell you how many times someone has told me that because of one of my products, they’ve changed their lives (eg, quit a job they hate, which allowed them to stay home and raise their child or look after sick parents).
This is beyond gratifying.
How Would You Like to Increase Your Income — Anytime You Want?
Also, I can write as many as how to reports and ebooks as I want. Which means I can forever increase my income. HOw many people can say this about their profession. You don’t have to wait for a raise, a good review or a company bonus to roll around. Simply write more. Hey, I can do that (and so can you)!
As the graphic that accomapanies this post alludes to, it really is like pulling money right out of your computer.
But, How Do I Know If What I Write Will Sell?
This is the stumbling block many allow to get in their way.
Don’t!
If you want to write an ebook or how-to report — but have no idea what to write about – here’s some info to help you not only select a niche, but make sure it’s a PROFITABLE NICHE before you put finger to keyboard.
