Freelance Writers: How to Prioritize Your Schedule to Make More
Money

Is Your Personality Causing You to Lose Money?
Quite frankly,
I’m an A-type personality and if I say I’m going to do something, I
do everything I can to make that happen – including running myself
into the ground.
Realizing that the busy season is about to begin,
I’ve come to the conclusion that if I don’t get my schedule under
control now, I’m going to be in real trouble once the season is in
full swing.
In short, while
being an A-type personality has served me well in many areas of my freelance writing life,
it can impede my success. The lesson here for all of us is that when you
start to feel overwhelmed, sit back with an assassin’s eye and ask
yourself, “What absolutely, positively has to get done.”
Let the rest
wait.
Freelance Writers: Success – How Sweet It Is, or Not?
I put a lot of
pressure on myself and I’m finding that the more success I experience,
the more I need to slowly start to change the way I operate. I’ve hit
some milestones over the last year or so that have caused more demands
on my time.
My sister made
me realize that I’m operating under a set of rules that no longer fit
my everyday reality. I can’t answer every email that asks for help on
freelance writing, I can’t take on client projects that pay below a
certain rate, I can’t speak at an impromptu Chamber of Commerce
meetings, etc.
Realizing this
was freeing – because it helped me to recognize how far I’ve come. But, as
with everything in life, success comes with a price.
No matter where
you are in your freelance writing career, you’re going to find that
you can’t operate under an old set of rules. If you’re starting out
while working a full-time job, you may soon discover that you have to
get up earlier to meet client deadlines.
If you gave up a
job to pursue freelance writing full-time, you may discover that you
have less
free time than you did before you started freelancing. And on and on.
The point is to
recognize when you need to make a change to accommodate your reality. If
you don’t, trust me, you’ll be running around like a chicken with
your head cut off – feeling like you’re not accomplishing anything
on any level.
And, that
ain’t a good feeling.
Success as a
freelance writer is sweet – as long as you adjust the lens of your
life to reflect that reality.
