In yesterday’s post on living abroad in Negril, Jamaica as a freelance writer, I told you how living in Jamaica has changed how I work as a freelance (SEO) writer. Today, I wanted to continue this conversation so that if you ever take your freelance writing career on the road, you’ll be well prepared.
More Ways Living in Jamaica Has Changed How I Run My Business as a Freelance (SEO) Writer
Bunch Writing Personal Blogs
I have four blogs I actively update. As the utility and internet service is iffy here, my plan is to bunch write for these – instead of updating them daily, as I tend to do now. I haven’t started this yet, but will next week.
This brings me to my next point . . .
Working Offline More
Some of my blogs and articles written for article marketing purposes don’t require online research, because they’re written from my personal experiences. Hence, I’m working offline more.
At home I’m logged on all the time – even when I don’t need to be. But here, I don’t have internet service in my apartment. So I may work at home for three or four hours before going to an internet café to upload and/or research stuff.
This has made me much more focused, eg, I do practically no mindless surfing here. When the service is on, I’m trying to get done what has to get done before it goes down again. This has increased my productivity exponentially.
I don’t think I’ve surfed for a half hour the ENTIRE time I’ve been here (going on two weeks now). And that’s not an exaggeration. That’s how focused I am on work when I’m online here.
Getting More Rest
I’m getting more rest here, which has made me more productive as well. And, this is because I don’t have internet service at home – and it’s iffy in a lot of spots here. At home, I know I can log on at any hour of the day or night to complete something. So, I get a little lax with my time during the day. Over a week, this can really add up in lost hours.
But here, I get online, get done what has to get done – and get off. As most places with internet service close up between 10 and 11 pm, there’s no chance of logging late hours. So, I have to get my work done when I’m “at work.”
FYI, there is one 24/7/365 place with internet service here in Negril (MiYard (pronounced “Me Yard)).
Also, as I have more of a social life here, I’m anxious to get to it (meet this friend for lunch, that one for wine, this one for a day at the beach (which I’m rushing to do right now)).
I’m taking a half day today – running off to spend the rest of the day at the beach with a friend.
Have a good weekend and this “girl a go go” will be back with ya on Monday!
